Wrote / co-wrote successful proposals for community development and research projects such as a catering service staffed by people with developmental delays (The Grendel Group, Smithers), a service-referral project for people with HIV/AIDs (AIDS Community Action Program / Positive Living North West, Smithers), a laneway revitalization study (Vernacular Group, North Vancouver), and a feasibility study for a hut-to-hut trail network in the North Okanagan.

Marine Plan Partnership for the North Pacific Coast
For the Marine Plan Partnership for the North Pacific Coast (MaPP), a partnership between the Province of British Columbia and 17 member First Nations, wrote multiple newsletter stories since 2016 on these Nations’ implementation of their jointly developed North Coast Marine Plan. These stories discussed new research and developments on topics such as emergent geoduck aquaculture/shellfish aquaculture innovation, invasive marine species, cumulative effects management, the effects of climate change on the North Coast marine environments, and more.

North Coast Cumulative Effects Program
For the North Coast Cumulative Effects Program (a partnership between BC’s environment ministry and several First Nations on BC’s North Coast), wrote a backgrounder, wrote and designed a stakeholder-facing brochure, developed a template/style guide, and edited/designed a package of key technical documents on cumulative effects management (e.g. cumulative effects assessment protocol and cumulative effects assessment results).

For the International Development Research Centre, co-authored [with Edna Aguiñaga, Andres Aranda, Erika Castro, Maria Clementino, Sean Markey, and Gretchen Hernandez] Planning for Effective Governance in Metropolitan Areas in Mexico. This document, used in a metropolitan government planning process in Mexico, outlines the context for metropolitan governance in Mexico, models of metropolitan governance, and key considerations to take into account when attempting to design and implement a metropolitan region.

For One Earth Society / Urban Sustainability Directors’ Network – a network of over 130 cities and counties in USA and Canada fostering innovative, sustainable solutions in cities, contributed chapters/editing to Local Governments and the Sharing Economy. This document was conceived as a roadmap to help local governments across North America more strategically engage with the sharing economy.

For the Pacific AIDS Network, Hepatitis C Council of BC, and a national coalition of non-profits advocating for people with Hepatitis C, wrote briefing notes for decision-makers on the case for more robust funding support for prevention and patient treatment. These documents involved coordination of input from multiple organizations on complex, charged topics.

Government of B.C., Footprint Environmental Strategies
Edited key technical and public-facing documents for various multi-stakeholder planning processes in British Columbia, including the Nass-South Sustainable Resource Management Plan, the Skeena Angling Management Plan, and the Bulkley-Valley/Lakes District Airshed Management Plan.

Coast Funds
For Coast Funds (Coast Economic Development Society and Conservation Endowment Fund Foundation), researched, wrote, photographed and/or curated images for detailed/illustrated case studies on resource and environmental management projects in Indigenous communities in the Great Bear Rainforest.
These stories were mostly published on Coast Funds website, but many of them inspired coverage in additional media. See here for the story of how the Old Masset Village Council on Haida Gwaii launched Hiellen Longhouse Village on the site of an important Haida Village.

Coast Funds
Co-wrote, edited, helped design, and curated images for the 2016 Annual Report of Coast Funds, an organization created in 2007 out of mutual recognition by conservationists, First Nations, industry, and government that a sustainable economy is vital to conservation efforts in the Great Bear Rainforest and Haida Gwaii areas of British Columbia. Coast Funds is actually two separate organizations that manage $118 million provided by six private foundations, the Province of British Columbia, and the Government of Canada.

For Paragon Testing Enterprises [recently acquired by Prometric Canada Testing Services] edited style guides and materials for assessing proficiency in English that are used at more than 80 test centres worldwide, such as Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program Test, Canadian Academic English Language Test, and the Language Proficiency Index.
